NOTE: To support synchronization with the IRM server, you must add a Records Manager unique identifier to a Netscape/Sun ONE LDAP directory server. This unique identifier isn't required for ADS or Microsoft Entra ID.

To enable the import and synchronization of LDAP-compliant directories into the Library Manager tree, the IRM server uses a unique identifier attribute (or synchronization ID). The default name for this attribute is, iManageSyncID though any proper name can be used.

The synchronization ID must be added to the schema of a remote directory before it's imported by IRM Library Manager. When a custom name is used, the attribute mapping must be changed accordingly. The value of iManageSyncId is automatically set during the import or synchronization operation. It isn't necessary to assign a value manually when the attribute is declared in the remote LDAP directory service. The synchronization attribute must be single-valued and able to store a string of up to 128 characters.

The IRM server operator must have Administrator rights to read/write the iManageSyncId in order to import a remote LDAP directory service. The documentation for the directory service (ADS or Netscape) explains how to give limited access rights to the IRM server operator.
