Co-authoring allows multiple people to work on the same document simultaneously, with changes syncing instantly. Use the steps below to start a co-authoring session from the iManage platform, either on the current version of a document or on a new version.

Open a document for co-authoring

  1. In the next generation platform, go to Documents, and then select Recent Documents (or the list containing the document you want).

  2. Locate the document, and then select the Actions icon (⋮) next to it.

  3. Select Open, and then select Edit (Co-author).

The document opens in the web in co-authoring mode. Other users with access to the document can join the session and edit alongside you.

Start co-authoring on a new version

Use this option when you want to begin a co-authoring session on a new version of the document rather than continuing on the current one.

  1. Select the Actions icon (⋮) next to the document you want to edit.

  2. Select Open, and then select Edit (Co-author) new version. The Edit (Co-author) new version dialog opens.

  3. On the Properties tab, review or update the document properties:

    • Title—the document name

    • Author—defaults to your name

    • Comments—optional notes about the new version

    • Class and Subclass—the document's classification

  4. If needed, select the Security tab to review or update security settings for the new version.

  5. Select Open after creating if you want the new version to open automatically once it's created.

  6. Select Create new version.

The next generation platform creates the new version and, if you selected Open after creating, opens it in the web application in co-authoring mode.
