iManage’s Auto Update technology for Microsoft Windows supports delivering different software versions to different users. This is done through the concept of a channel. An Auto Updates channel is similar to a television channel or radio station. It delivers software updates to a specified set of users.

All users running iManage’s Auto Update technology and using the same channel will receive the software updates defined for that channel. Channels are typically defined with some business objective in mind.  For example, one of the public autoupdate channels that iManage maintains is called Coming Soon. Releases are published to this channel so administrators and IT teams can preview updates before deploying them to end users.

iManage also maintains channels that deliver software updates at different frequencies. For example, users who subscribe to the iManage Monthly channel receive frequent updates. However, users can also subscribe to a semi-annual channel which delivers updates only twice a year.

Channels give IT administrators the power, flexibility, and convenience to automatically deploy different products with appropriate versions to different user groups. Channels are defined in the update.ini file, which is located at: %ProgramData%\iManage\AgentServices\CentralizedConfigs.
