Using linked documents created using iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite

In iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later, you can continue to work with iManage Work documents containing linked objects created using iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite. However, these links are categorized as Classic iManage Links by iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 and offer only limited functionality.

To view linked documents created using iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite in iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later, do the following:

  1. From iManage Work Desktop for Windows, open the document that contains OLE links created using iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite.

  2. On the horizontal banner that appears, select Open iManage Links Manager. The iManage Links Manager panel appears.

  3. The source document(s) are displayed under Classic iManage Links in the iManage Links Manager panel as shown in the following figure:

  4. (Optional) Select images/download/thumbnails/163625658/Screenshot_2021-12-13_at_4.57.56_PM.png to perform the following actions:

    • Go to Content: If supported, points you to the location where the source document is linked.

      NOTE:

This option is enabled in Microsoft Excel only if the embedded source link was created using Paste Special.

    • Upgrade: Upgrades the classic links to be compatible with iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later.

The remaining kebab menu options are all displayed but are unavailable until the links are upgraded to be compatible with iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later. To upgrade the existing classic links, do the following:

IMPORTANT:

After upgrading any classic links in the iManage Links Manager panel, if you later open the container document in iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite again, the links are no longer recognized by iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite as iManage Work links, although the content of the links is still displayed. If you make any changes to the source files, the latest content is displayed in iManage DeskSite or iManage FileSite only if the links are updated in iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later.

Hence, we recommend that you upgrade the iManage Classic Links only after all the users working on the relevant container documents are upgraded to iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later.
Once all active users are upgraded to the 10.8.0 client or later, we recommend that you upgrade all classic links in the container document at the same time. This avoids working with a mix of links created with iManage FileSite or iManage DeskSite and iManage Work Desktop for Windows in the same document.

  1. From iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.8.0 or later, open the container document.

  2. On the horizontal banner, select Open iManage Links Manager. The iManage Links Manager panel appears and displays all the linked documents created using iManage Work desktop clients.

  3. On the iManage Links Manager panel, select Upgrade as shown in the following figure:

Alternatively, select images/download/thumbnails/163625658/Screenshot_2021-12-13_at_4.57.56_PM.png next to the document whose links have to be converted and select Upgrade. The Upgrade classic links dialog box appears.

  4. Select Upgrade.

  5. (Optional) Select Do not show again check box if you do not want to view the Upgrade classic links dialog box again.

The links are upgraded and you can now add, modify, or change source documents using iManage Work Desktop for Windows.

NOTE:

  • If you select the Do not show again check box, then selecting Upgrade directly converts the links, and the Upgrade classic links dialog box is no longer shown to you when converting any additional iManage Classic Links.

  • If you want to display the Upgrade classic links dialog box again, contact your administrator or change AskBeforeConvertClassLinks registry setting to Y in the following location:
