Working with Adobe Acrobat applications in non-integrated mode

Previously, if you were running Adobe Acrobat applications in Protected mode, you had to disable it to modify PDF files saved to iManage Work.

From version 10.7.0 onwards, two new configuration settings AdobeIntegrated and AdobeReaderIntegrated are available in imWorkOptions.xml file. The default value for these configurations is Y. When set to N, iManage Work plug-in is not added to Adobe Acrobat Reader (32-bit only) and Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro DC (64-bit and 32-bit) applications. For more information about these configurations settings, contact your administrator or refer to imWorkOptions.xml section in iManage Work Desktop for Windows Customization Guide.

With this, when Protected mode enabled in Adobe Acrobat applications, iManage Work Desktop for Windows is in non-integrated mode. You can however check out and modify the PDF files saved to iManage Work using these applications and all the changes are checked in to iManage Work when you close the files. You no longer have to disable the Protected mode in these applications.

When using Adobe Acrobat DC Reader and Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro in non-integrated mode, iManage Work Agent handles the file checkin and checkout process and timeline entries reflect this information. However, if you have iManage Drive running on their machines, iManage Drive handles the checkin and checkout process when using Adobe Acrobat DC Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC in non-integrated mode and timeline entries display this information.

NOTE:

  • 64-bit Adobe Acrobat DC Reader only supports non-integrated mode. You cannot install the iManage Work plug-in in the 64-bit Adobe Acrobat DC Reader even when Protected mode is disabled and AdobeReaderIntegrated is set to Y in imWorkOptions.xml configuration file. However, any modifications made to the PDF file saved to iManage Work using 64-bit Adobe Acrobat DC Reader are checked in to iManage Work when users close the PDF file.

  • As long as Protected mode is enabled, iManage Work Desktop for Windows will always function in non-integrated mode.

  • From version 10.8.0 onwards, support for Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro 2017 is deprecated.

Refer to the following table for information about which Adobe Acrobat applications are supported in integrated and non-integrated mode:

IMPORTANT:

iManage strongly recommends that users use 64-bit versions of Microsoft issue for improved performance inline with recommendations from Microsoft.
