iManage AI Enrichment enhances document management by automatically classifying certain documents and, when applicable, enriching them with metadata extracted from document content. For agreements, this includes key details such as Agreement Date, Governing Law, Heading, Jurisdiction, and Parties.
By running automatically in the background, iManage AI Enrichment helps organize documents consistently and make relevant content easier to find, without requiring manual classification or data entry.
How it works
NOTE: For a step-by-step view of how documents move from upload through classification, enrichment, and user edits, refer to Workflow: iManage AI enrichment workflow for a new document.
iManage AI Enrichment processes each document as follows:
Classifies documents automatically: iManage AI Enrichment analyzes document content using AI models to detect and classify documents. When a document matches a supported file type (for example, .docx, .pdf, .rtf) and contains at least 80% English-language content, it is automatically classified based on its content and assigned a Category. iManage AI Enrichment assigns one of three categories: Agreement, Court Document, or Undetermined. The assigned category is automatically populated in the document Category metadata property in iManage Work.
Determines whether enrichment applies: Classification determines whether enrichment occurs. Only documents categorized as Agreement receive agreement-specific enriched metadata. Documents categorized as Court Document or Undetermined are classified but don't receive this additional enriched metadata, though the administrative properties (Enrichment Date, Enrichment Status Code, and Enrichment Version) are still updated.
Identifies the agreement’s sub-type: For documents categorized as Agreement, iManage AI Enrichment identifies the agreement’s specific sub-type (66 supported sub-classes) by running an Agreement sub-class model to determine which label to apply, if relevant. This step runs automatically and doesn’t produce a separate visible property.
Enriches agreements with key metadata: Once iManage AI Enrichment has identified a document as an Agreement with one of the available sub-class labels, it runs a secondary process to extract agreement-specific details (such as Agreement Date, Governing Law, Heading, Jurisdiction, and Parties) and populates them into dedicated enriched metadata properties.
Makes metadata available for search and knowledge management: The Category property and any enriched metadata properties are displayed in the document Properties panel in iManage Work Web. Users can view, search, and filter documents using these properties. Users with appropriate permissions can also edit enriched metadata.
Allows refinement of AI-generated values: Users with the appropriate permissions can edit AI-generated metadata. Doing so automatically disables enrichment for the affected document version only, leaving the manually edited values in place. For more information, refer to the Manually editing an enriched property section in Working with enriched metadata properties.
