Ask iManage retrieves the information you want from a document by reading through the document. It also provides you with the evidence(s) within the document based on which the response was generated.

Asking a question
Browse to the Ask iManage side panel. For instructions about how to access the side panel, refer to Ask iManage side panel.
Select one of the following guided actions:
Overview
Summarize

In the Ask your question here… field, ask a question related to the document.
Figure: Ask your question here…fieldIf you select Summarize, Analyze, Extract, or Question list, you may have to frame your question accordingly. A few examples of which are provided in Ways of asking a question in Ask iManage. Questions or instructions have a character limit of 4000 characters, including white spaces.
The Overview and Chronology actions don’t require you to add any questions. This is because Overview provides you with an overall summary of the document and Chronology provides a timeline of the key dates of the events for the document.
Ask iManage searches only in the document you selected. Ensure you frame the question effectively with enough detail, so that when processed, you get the desired answer.
A question or instruction with sufficient detail will help you get the answer you're seeking. Ask iManage also lets you build over your question or instruction based on the answer you get, to drill down further for more specific information or understand any related information.If you select Summarize, Analyze, Extract, or Question list, a few questions specific to the document selected, are suggested to you as examples. You can use these question suggestions, as is, or use them and frame your questions in a similar manner.

Figure: Answers displayed for SummarizeSelect Cancel if you want to stop Ask iManage from searching for answers. Ask iManage stops searching for the answer. You can then select Retry to continue with the search.
NOTES:
Ask iManage reads through your document to fetch the most appropriate answer and it may take a while.
If Ask iManage fails to find the relevant information in the document or relevant information doesn't exist for the question being asked, a “Answer not found” response is displayed.
The responses are temporarily saved in the browser cache. The moment you sign out of the application, the responses are deleted. You can save the questions for re-use in the future. Only you'll be able to view the questions you ask and the responses.
Working with conversational history
Ask iManage remembers and saves the previous questions you have asked to a document. To access the previous questions, do the following:
Select History on the Ask iManage side panel.

Select a conversation. You can also use the search option provided in the Conversational history panel to narrow down your search.

All the questions previously asked along with their answers are displayed.Figure: Conversational historyYou can either review these questions or ask additional questions by selecting a guided action and then asking your question in the Ask your question here… field. Any additional questions asked are saved to the selected conversational history.
If you want to start a new conversation, then select New chat in the Ask iManage side panel, select a guided action, and then ask your question in the Ask you question here… field.Figure: New chat option(Optional) You can delete a saved conversational history by doing one of the following:
In the Conversational history panel.
Select the conversation you want to delete.
Select the kebab menu and then select Delete .
Select Delete in the confirmation dialog that appears. The conversation history is now deleted.

In the Ask iManage side panel:
Select the kebab menu on the top right-side and select Delete .

NOTES:
The name of the conversational history is based on the first question you ask.
The New chat option isn't available when you select a document that has no conversational history saved or when you select this option to start a new conversation.
Viewing the evidence of the response
The number icons beside each answer show the count of evidence found in the document related to the question. To view the section of the document that was used to generate the answer, hover over a number icon.

Expand the side panel to view the document preview. Hover the pointer along the vertical left edge of the panel—it changes to . Hold down the pointer and drag the edge to the left to increase its width, or drag the edge to the right to reduce the panel width.Figure: Select a number to view the evidence in the document
Searching the document in the preview using a query
In the document preview view, a search field is included. You can search the document by entering a query in the search field.
The count of occurrences of the search term/phrase is provided.
The and icons help you move to the next or previous occurrence.
The drop-down list helps you quickly go to a particular instance of an occurrence.
Copying the question and the responses to your local device
To copy the answer for your intended use:
Hover over the answer which you want to copy.
Select the Copy to clipboard icon.
Providing feedback on the quality and accuracy of the response
After you've validated the answer, select the Good answer or Bad answer icon to give us feedback about how Ask iManage did.
If you select the Bad answer icon, you're presented with a set of preset answers that give us more information about why the answer wasn't acceptable. These options are:
Answer is incorrect
Answer is incomplete
Answer is too short
Answer is too long
Style is bad or offensive
Other
NOTES:
Selecting any of these feedback options doesn’t send us the document, question, or answer.
Once you share the feedback, you can't change your selection.
Saving the questions to the question library
You can save the questions to the question library either using any of the following methods. Questions saved in this manner can be reused later without the need to re-enter them.
Select the Save to the question library icon in the Ask your question here… field.

Changing question visibility
By default, the question is saved with Personal visibility, implying that only you'll have access to that question. To make it available to other users in your organization, change the visibility to Organization by:
Select the Open the question library icon.

(Optional) To copy the question to the clipboard, use the copy icon, and delete the question from the question library using the Delete icon.

Selecting questions saved in the question library
The question library lists all the questions you have saved to the library. This allows you to re-use the questions without having to enter them.
Select the Open the question library icon to view all the questions saved.
Figure: Questions saved to librarySelect a question to automatically add it to the Ask your question here… field. You can use the question as is, or modify it to match the requirement before pressing Enter for Ask iManage to generate or fetch an answer.
Deleting the question and the response
Hover over the question and select Delete option to delete the question. The question and its answer are deleted.
Exporting the responses
Select the kebab menu on the top right-side and select.
Select the Export icon and select one of the following options:
Export to Excel
Export to CSV
Export to Word

Displaying/hiding the document preview in the side panel
To display the document preview in the side panel, select the Open the preview panel icon.
To close the document preview in the side panel, select the Close the preview panel icon.
