In the Navigation pane, select the Administration tab.
In the Setup Policies pane, select Standards. All standards appear in the List pane.
Double-click the standard in which you want to add the template. Alternatively, select the standard and press the Enter key.
From the New menu in the toolbar, select Template. The New Template dialog opens.
Update the following fields:
Template name: Enter a name for this template.
Comments/Usage Instructions: Enter any relevant information or instructions about this template.
Auto-generate item: To automatically create the file part, select this check box. When you create a new matter where the Practice Area matches the standard, this file part is automatically created. If you don't select this check box, users can still manually create file parts from this template.
Auto-generate barcode ID: To automatically generate the barcode for this file part, select this check box.
Automatically assign File Part ID: To automatically create an ID for this file part, select this check box.
File Part ID Prefix: Enter any text that should precede the file part ID.
Minimum Digits: Specify how many digits the file part ID should contain. For example, enter 3 to generate a 3-digit file part (001-999).
A preview of the ID appears.
Name rule: Select one of the following options to determine if users can modify the file part name.
Read Only: Users can't modify the file part name specified by the template.
Append: The name provided acts as a prefix, and users can add, or append additional text to the name specified in the template.
Read/Write: Users can modify or overwrite the name specified by the template. The user has the option to accept the name, append, or modify it, or enter a totally different name.
Name: Enter a name for file parts generated from this template.
Description: Enter a short description of file parts created from this template.
Media type: Select the media type for file parts created from this template. Media types describe the containment rules that govern how standards and folders are organized.
Record type: Select the icon and select the record type for file parts created from this template.
Retention schedule: Select the icon and select the schedule to apply to file parts created from this template. When you specify a retention schedule on a template, it automatically overrides any of the other ways the application uses to apply retention schedules.
Select OK.
