From the Matter Details > Security tab, you can view a list of the holds that include the matter, and add existing holds to the matter.
Holds on an item containing matters—for example a client or a collection—are also applied to those matters.

Viewing matter holds
In the Matters dashboard,
- Select anywhere on a matter row to open the matter page. The Overview tab is displayed, by default.
- Select the View Holds button. All of the holds which include the matter are listed.
- Select a hold in the list to navigate to that hold. For more information, see Holds.
Adding existing holds to a matter
In the Matters dashboard,
- Select anywhere on a matter row to open the matter page. The Overview tab is displayed, by default.
- Select the View Holds button. All of the holds which include the matter are listed.
- Select the Add Hold button. All available holds are listed.
- Use the filter and selection tools to select the holds you want the matter to be a part of.
- Select OK. A confirmation message appears.
The hold is added to the matter.
Removing holds from a matter
Holds applied directly to a matter can be removed from the matter. Holds applied to a matter as a result of the matter being part of another item, such as a case or a collection, can only be removed at the level of the containing item.
In the Matters dashboard,
- Select anywhere on a matter row to open the matter page. The Overview tab is displayed, by default.
- Select the View Holds button. All of the holds which include the matter are listed.
- On the row of the hold that you want to remove, select .
- Select Remove. A confirmation dialog box displays.
- Select Yes.
A success message is displayed and the matter is no longer under that hold.
