The term Smart attachments refers to attachments to emails that are revisions of documents that have already been saved in iManage Work and sent in an email. When you save a smart attachment as a new version of an iManage Work document, the profile of the iManage Work document is preselected so you don’t have to search for it.
iManage Work does this by using embedded metadata of the attachment that identifies the document, sender, and original location in iManage Work. When the document is returned, the system uses this metadata to match it with the original document in iManage Work, prompting the user to save it as a new version.
