Installing Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime

Microsoft Azure Conditional Access policies can be used to allow you to access your organization's resource from anywhere using a variety of devices and apps. To ensure iManage Work Desktop for Windows supports the Conditional Access policies enabled by the organization, from 10.5.0 onwards, when users or administrators upgrade or install the iManage Work Desktop for Windows, Microsoft WebView2 runtime is required. Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is a Microsoft browser control that is built on Chromium engine. Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is a Microsoft browser control that is built on Chromium engine. Microsoft Edge WebView2 is a Microsoft browser control that is built on Chromium engine and the support is added to:

  • Sign-in forms

  • Open, Save, Browse, and New Version dialog boxes

  • Document panels (Timeline, Properties, and Versions)

Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is not part of iManage Work Desktop for Windows installation package and must be installed prior to installing iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.5.1. iManage installer checks to see whether Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is installed. If it is not present, an error message states that Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is required and the installer closes.

Install Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime

If you are using Auto Updates channel to upgrade/install iManage Work Desktop for Windows, Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is downloaded and installed separately prior to installing iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.5.1.

However, if you are upgrading/installing iManage Work Desktop for Windows as a standalone application, then download and install Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime using the following link: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/#download-section.

NOTE:

Microsoft Edge browser is not required to run Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime.

IMPORTANT:

Microsoft Edge WebView2 browser control is not compatible with Microsoft Windows Server 2016 with Azure conditional access policy enabled. Azure Conditional Access policies on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 are currently supported only with Internet Explorer (IE) that is no longer supported by Microsoft. Hence, if the Conditional Access Policies are enabled or enforced, iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.5.1 will not work on a multi user environment like Citrix with desktop operating system running on Microsoft Windows Server 2016.

iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.5.1 and later work seamlessly with the following Device Compliant and Hybrid Azure Join policies.

  • require multi-factor authentication

  • require device to be marked as compliant

  • require Hybrid Azure AD joined device

Installation changes

Microsoft Edge WebView2 SDK redistributable is installed to iManage Work Desktop for Windows installation folder.
