Use the Effort and Search mode to provide granular control over the depth of AI reasoning and the scope of document retrieval for your queries. In this section:
Effort
Effort allows you to adjust the depth of reasoning Ask applies before generating a response. The following options are available:
Quick answer: Favors speed. Ask leans on search results rather than deep per-document analysis, returning an answer faster. This option is ideal for quick summaries, definitions, or simple fact checks.
Deep analysis: Favors depth. The assistant reasons across documents more thoroughly before responding. This is the default value. This option is best for complex queries involving cross-document comparison, risk evaluation, nuance extraction, or policy cross-checks
Effort is available in More options and can be set per query.
Search mode
Search mode defines whether Ask searches the broader iManage platform repository or restricts its analysis to attached files. The following options are available:
Auto: Ask decides for itself whether the attached documents are sufficient, avoiding unnecessary searches and returning faster answers when they are. This is recommended for standard everyday questions where attachments may or may not have complete information. This is the default value.
Search Enabled: Always queries the broader iManage platform repository in addition to any attached files. Ideal when looking for related precedents, wider matter context, or background documentation across the organization.
Search Disabled: Restricts answers strictly to the uploaded or attached files, bypassing repository search entirely. This is best when analyzing a specific draft, contract, or isolated document set without pulling in external repository content.
Search mode is available in More options and persists across conversations.
