If your users are already using co-authoring with the iManage Work with Office for the web Co-authoring application, you can run this side by side with the new iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring. This lets some or all of your users test our new iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring application while they continue using our existing iManage Work with Microsoft Office for the web Co-authoring functionality.

If you enable both iManage Work with Microsoft Office for the web Co-authoring and iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring options in iManage Control Center, the following sets of menus appear.

  • View/Edit/Edit new version in Word/Excel/PowerPoint for the web: To view files using existing Office for the web co-authoring menu options.

  • New Word/Excel/PowerPoint file: To create file using existing Office for the web co-authoring menu options.

  • View/Edit (Co-author)/Edit (Co-author) new version in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint for the web: To edit files using Microsoft 365 for the web (iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring menu options)

  • Edit (Co-author)/Edit (Co-author) new version: To edit files using Microsoft 365 applications for the desktop or Microsoft 365 applications for iOS (iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring menu options)

  • New MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint file: To create files using Microsoft 365 for the web (iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring menu options)

After the selected users have finished any planned testing of the iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring solution, we recommend that you disable the Office for the web application in iManage Control Center by following the guidance below.

NOTES:

  • When transitioning, as a first step, we recommend removing the Office for the web functions from your context menus in iManage Control Center.

  • This will prevent any user from creating new co-authoring sessions using the legacy method.

  • After 30 days you can remove the Office for the web application from iManage Control Center.

  • Users will not lose any edits since the auto-save will have captured all changes.
