Insight+ relies on knowledge libraries that use the Knowledge-* metadata model to deliver analytics, dashboards, and reporting. When enabling iManage AI Enrichment in an Insight+ environment, administrators must meet specific metadata configuration and sequencing requirements to ensure Insight+ functionality is maintained.

This section is for customers who already use Insight+ (or are setting it up) and want to add iManage AI Enrichment to their environment. It's the fourth step in the Setup and validation workflow.

In this section:

Knowledge library metadata model

Disabling the Extended Metadata feature in iManage Control Center transitions knowledge libraries from the Extended-* metadata model to the Knowledge-* metadata model used by Insight+. As part of this transition:

  • Extended-Core is replaced by Knowledge-Core

  • Extended-Extra is replaced by Knowledge-Extra

  • Curation-Core and Curation-Extra become available

These enriched metadata fields enable Insight+ to deliver advanced analytics, dashboards, and reporting.

Non-knowledge libraries and AI Enrichment

iManage distinguishes between knowledge libraries and non-knowledge libraries. Non-knowledge libraries store general work product such as matter documents, emails, and filings. iManage AI Enrichment processes eligible documents in these libraries; it doesn’t process emails.

AI Enrichment populates metadata for non-knowledge libraries in the Extension Fields tab. These fields include taxonomy, lookup, text, date, and administrative property types. They are used for document classification and extracting agreement-specific details such as Agreement Date, Governing Law, Jurisdiction, Parties, and Heading. Insight+ consumes this enriched metadata alongside metadata from knowledge libraries.

Metadata behavior by configuration state

The following table summarizes how metadata differs between non-Insight+ environments (Extended Metadata enabled) and the configuration required for Insight+ (Extended Metadata disabled).

Table: Extended Metadata enabled versus disabled

Extended Metadata is enabled
(non-Insight+ environments)

Extended Metadata is disabled
(required for Insight+ customers when enabling iManage AI Enrichment)

Metadata tabs include:

  • Extended-Core

  • Extended-Extra

Curation-Core and Curation-Extra don't appear

Knowledge libraries transition to the Knowledge-* metadata model.

Metadata tabs include:

  • Knowledge-Core (formerly Extended-Core)

  • Knowledge-Extra (formerly Extended-Extra)

  • Curation-Core

  • Curation-Extra

In non-knowledge libraries, the Knowledge-Core and Knowledge-Extra tabs may be visible but don't contain any fields.

Recommended configuration sequence for Insight+ customers

iManage AI Enrichment must be enabled in a specific sequence to keep Insight+ functioning correctly. Complete the following steps in order; perform Steps 1 and 2 in quick succession so their propagation windows overlap into a single 8-hour wait rather than two separate waits:

  1. Enable iManage AI Enrichment: In iManage Control Center, enable the iManage AI Enrichment application for your tenant.

  2. Disable Extended Metadata: In iManage Control Center, disable the Extended Metadata feature from the Upcoming features tab.

IMPORTANT: After disabling Extended Metadata, wait the full 8-hour back-end propagation period before proceeding. Don't validate metadata, import CSV files, or configure Insight+ during this period.
During this time:

  • UI elements may appear active.

  • Metadata fields may be visible but not fully functional.

  • CSV imports may partially succeed or fail.

  • Fields may appear in iManage Control Center, but attempts to configure or modify them are likely to result in errors until the full 8-hour propagation window has passed.

  1. Verify metadata visibility:

    • Knowledge libraries: Confirm that the following metadata tabs and fields are visible under Properties:

      • Knowledge-Core (formerly Extended-Core)

      • Knowledge-Extra (formerly Extended-Extra)

      • Curation-Core

      • Curation-Extra

    • Non-knowledge libraries: Confirm that enrichment properties (for example, Agreement Date, Governing Law) are visible in iManage Control Center under Metadata > Properties > Extension Fields. This ensures that document classification and enrichment can proceed correctly.

  2. Import required CSV files by uploading the latest files provided by iManage:

    • Category.csv

    • Jurisdiction.csv

    • Governing_law.csv

These files populate the enrichment properties used by iManage AI Enrichment and Insight+.

NOTE: For instructions on updating or re-importing CSV files, refer to Import property values and Re-import CSV files to update metadata.

  1. Validate Insight+ functionality: Confirm that Insight+ displays the expected Knowledge-* metadata fields and that analytics, dashboards, and reporting operate as expected.

Risks of incorrect configuration sequencing

Failing to follow the recommended sequence can result in:

  • Partial or failed CSV imports

  • Missing or inconsistent metadata fields

  • Insight+ analytics or dashboards not reflecting enriched values

  • Temporary back-end errors that require reconfiguration

If you encounter these issues, confirm the required propagation window has fully elapsed before retrying.
