Most organizations have some requirement for customization, often dependent on the arenas or industries in which they operate.

This sample depicts a law firm, which needs to track some additional data for their records. For internal process purposes, they need to track the Fiscal Year (date) for all matters, and the name of the Managing Partner for the matter. They also want to track the primary practice area and the sub practice area for each matter.

This sample scenario helps you to extend the default object model to include the following metadata:

  • Primary_Practice

  • Sub_Practice

  • Fiscal_Year

  • Managing_Partner

The added extended metadata properties are exposed in the appropriate forms, added to the default views, relationships registered, and published to the Records Manager server.

The customization is done in six phases. Each of these phases is described as follows:

  1. Phase 1 - Extending the Object Model: This phase demonstrates how to create and apply metadata tables, properties, and relationships to an object using Object Modeler.

  2. Phase 2 - Updating the Library Manager: This phase demonstrates how to add values to the metadata tables and relationships using Library Manager.

  3. Phase 3 - Application Designer Edit Components: This phase demonstrates how to register extended relationships and also set the extended properties as Required using the Edit Components section of Configuration Application Designer.

  4. Phase 4 - Application Designer Views: This phase demonstrates how to add all the extended properties to Views using Views Designer.

  5. Phase 5 - Customizing the Matter Forms: This phase demonstrates how to customize forms to include all the extended properties using Forms Designer. We recommend that you complete all the earlier steps before you start customizing the forms.

  6. Phase 6 - Customizing Reports: This phase demonstrates how to customize the reports to include the extended metadata using Reports Designer.

  7. Viewing the Customizations: This section tells you how to access and view the custom forms, views, and reports in Records Manager clients.
