You can browse to a file and open it in edit mode in any of the following even when the file is marked with a red globe  icon:

  • Microsoft 365 for the web

  • Microsoft 365 applications for the desktop (Microsoft Windows and macOS devices)

  • Microsoft 365 applications for iOS, Microsoft Word for iOS, Microsoft Excel for iOS, or Microsoft PowerPoint for iOS device

  • iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.10.1 or later

You just need to have:

  • iManage Work and Microsoft 365 accounts.

  • Read/write access or full access to a file saved to iManage Work.

  • iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.10.1 or later installed on your device if you want to edit files using iManage Work Desktop for Windows.

If you receive the URL during the editing session, you can select the URL and open the file directly in Microsoft 365 for the web, or open the file using Preview in iManage Work at cloudimanage.com.

If the link is sent to you by a user using any of the following options, selecting the file will open it in Preview, by default.

  • Copy Link option available in iManage Work at cloudimanage.com

  • Copy edit link option in iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.10.1 or later

  • Send edit link option in iManage Work Desktop for Windows 10.10.1 or later

When the file opens in Preview, you can edit either in a browser, Microsoft 365 desktop applications, on iOS devices, or iManage Work Desktop for Windows. For more information about how to edit, refer to Editing files

If the lock icon is displayed for a file, it denotes that the file is checked out exclusively and it isn’t possible to open this file for co-authoring using the iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring menu options. You can however, open the file in View mode in Microsoft 365 for the web or Microsoft 365 applications for the desktop, Microsoft Word for iOS, Microsoft Excel for iOS, Microsoft PowerPoint for iOS applications, or iManage Work Desktop for Windows.

Additionally, if a red globe icon is displayed next to a file and it's checked out using iManage Work with Microsoft Office for the web menu options, you can’t co-author the files using iManage Work Next Generation Co-authoring menus (that is Edit (Co-author) options).
